Dentist in Missouri Reveals Key Benefits of CEREC® Dental Crowns
Dr. Grant Olson of Innovative Dental of Springfield highlights the advantages of CEREC® dental crowns for people interested in restoring damaged teeth.
Springfield, MO — Implied by the name of his practice, Springfield cosmetic dentist Grant Olson, DDS strives to remain on the forefront of innovation across all aspects of dental care. As testament to this devotion, he and his associate, Dr. Megan Westrich, employ some of the latest, most advanced technologies available in the field of dentistry, including CEREC® for same day restorations. In addition to veneers, inlays, onlays, and various other cosmetic and reconstructive dental treatments, the dentists utilize CEREC® to design and create customized dental crowns in-house.
According to Dr. Olson, dental crowns can be a great option for individuals interested in restoring the appearance and function of damaged teeth. As opposed to crowns produced in a dental lab, he notes that CEREC® crowns can be custom designed, fabricated, and secured to the patient’s teeth during a single office visit. Other key benefits of CEREC® dental crowns can include their ability to:
- Restore teeth that are decayed, chipped, broken, or fractured
- Strengthen and protect weak teeth
- Provide support for a dental bridge and/or large filling
- Cover the tip of a dental implant
- Enhance the aesthetics of one’s smile
During the dental crown procedure, Dr. Olson explains that a digital impression of the patient’s teeth is first taken, and a customized crown is then designed with the utmost precision using the CEREC® system’s 3D imaging software. Based on this design, the final restoration is manufactured out of a durable porcelain material via in-house CEREC® milling technology. Once fabricated, the new dental crown is placed and secured to the affected tooth with a special oral cement.
In regard to how long CEREC® crowns last, Dr. Olson says the restoration should be treated like natural teeth, which includes regular brushing and flossing, as well as trips to the dentist to receive a professional cleaning at least once a year. “With the proper maintenance and care, dental crowns that are made using CEREC® technology can last decades.”
