Full Arch Dental Implants vs. Traditional Implants: Pros and Cons
Dr. Grant Olson, our Springfield implant dentist, has helped countless patients transform their smiles with dental implants. However, one of the most common questions he gets from patients is whether they should try to replace individual teeth with dental implants or opt for a “clean slate” approach using All-on-X implant prosthetics.
In the video linked below, Dr. Olson outlines some pros and cons of each option, emphasizing that the final decision is ultimately situational and depends on the needs of the individual.
Broadly speaking, All-on-X—also known as All-on-4® or All-on-6—is recommended for patients with widespread dental concerns, as treatment focuses on restoring full arches of teeth. Dr. Olson explains that while saving a few remaining healthy teeth is certainly worth considering, it often works out such that an All-on-X treatment is actually cheaper, less time-consuming, and more aesthetically pleasing for patients than a more conservative full mouth reconstruction involving single-tooth implants, crowns, and veneers. The final dental prosthetic can be fully customized, ensuring optimal fit and functionality with a natural-looking appearance.
That said, for patients with only a few missing teeth and otherwise healthy dentition, traditional implants may be the more practical solution. This approach allows for the replacement of individual teeth while leaving the adjacent teeth unaffected. Cosmetic dentistry and orthodontic treatments such as porcelain veneers and Invisalign® can be used to provide an aesthetic smile makeover, as desired.
